Sandburg Student Art Show March 26-May 7; Opening Reception April 6

The creative works of Carl Sandburg College students will be featured during the annual juried Student Art Show from March 26-May 7 in the Lonnie Eugene Stewart Art Gallery on the Main Campus in Galesburg, 2400 Tom L. Wilson Blvd.
An opening reception will take place from 6-8 p.m. April 6. Both the show and reception are free and open to the public. Awards in several categories will be given out for the show, which features dozens of student-created pieces in various media.
The juror for this year’s show is Cathie Crawford of Peoria. Crawford’s work has been included in more than 300 exhibitions, 40 juried national shows and 12 international juried exhibitions. She has won more than 30 awards at the regional and national level, and her woodcuts have been exhibited in Poland, Saudi Arabia, France and the United Kingdom.
Crawford has had pieces selected for exhibition at locations including the International Print Center in New York; the Galesburg Civic Art Center; the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences; Artlink in Fort Wayne, Ind.; Bradley University in Peoria; the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.; the Harlech Printmaking Open in Harlech, Wales.
Her prints are included in private and corporate collections in eight countries, including Bradley University, Illinois Central College and Methodist Medical Center in Peoria; Trenton (N.J.) State College; the Safeya Binzagr Darat in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; and HRH Abdullah Saud Mohammed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Crawford’s “Bliss of Being: 30 Years of Woodcuts” collection was featured at Sandburg last fall.
Established in 2006 and named for area artist Lonnie Eugene Stewart in 2015, the Lonnie Eugene Stewart Art Gallery has hosted group faculty exhibits, juried student exhibits and the works of area professional artists.
